Approach Aid

In the 1960s Northholt Airport was frequently mistaken for Heathrow. To make matters more confusing, each airport had a nearby gasometer. Ever since, Heathrow's gasometer has been painted with the giant letters LHR (London Heathrow) and an arrow pointing in the right direction.
